Looney TV: Beanstalk Bunny (1954)

Chuck Jones sends up Jack & the Beanstalk in 1954's "Beanstalk Bunny".

Jack (Daffy Duck) sells off his cow for three beans. But because this is Daffy we're seeing here, he throws the beans away, which convienently land in Bugs Bunny's rabbit hole. Seconds later, the beanstalk sprouts up, and Bugs and "Jack" encounter a giant with a serious speech defect (Elmer Fudd, of course).

Similar to the "rabbit/duck season" trilogy, but then it moves on to the trope Daffy would use in later appearances as a greedy, craven coward. Bugs, Daffy, & Elmer have great chemistry together, as usual.

Rating: A.

This is one of my favorite Looney Tunes, and I'm quite irate that it was never included on any of the LT DVDs or Blu-Rays, despite multiple opportunities for WB to do so. The most obvious place would have been in the Golden Collection Vol. 5, with all the other Fairy-tale inspired cartoons. Instead they wasted half the space with older cartoons that aren't funny and are of interest only to die-hard animation buffs/historians (my apologies if you're one, but I just have to vent about this). No wonder the line died prematurely (they had 10 volumes planned, and it got axed after only 6). This is one of the funniest Looney Tunes ever, it's a shame I only have an old VHS version to watch.

Apparently, WB needs to open a department of oversight for such flubs.
