Personal Favorites: Baseball Bugs (1946)

Major League Baseball begins its regular season on Easter Sunday. While preseason action is underway, let's scope out Bugs Bunny as a one-rabbit team vs. the bullying Gas House Gorillas in Baseball Bugs.

Edit, 1/3/24: Had to change the video. Here's a short excerpt in which Bugs enters the game.

Animator Tedd Pierce is heard as the announcer for most of the short, before being replaced by Mel Blanc. Bea Benaderet is heard as the Statue of Liberty, who comes to life to scold one of the Gorillas at the end of the picture.

Rating: A+.

WB led off with this classic for their Looney Tunes DVD debut - it was the first cartoon of the first disc of the first Looney Tunes Golden Collection. It looked so much better on that DVD than I had ever seen it look before. This is another dropped series I wish would be completed on DVD or Blu-Ray. If WB has no interest in finishing the series, at least let a reputable third party do it, like Shout Factory or Olive Films.

Hear, hear. I'm waiting for the Golden Collection to be discounted down to a reasonable price so I can finally snag it.

They come down periodically, then go back up. I just saw the entire series, all 6 volumes, on sale at Amazon & Walmart for just under $40 back in January (I think one of them was price-matching the other). Set up an alert at CamelCamelCamel and wait for the next sale.

I'll keep an ear and an eye open for the sales. You know, like Walmart's famous Rollbacks.
