Saturday Morning's Greatest Hits: Eep Opp Ork Ah Ah (1962)

I'm pretty sure most of you know this classic from The Jetsons.

Judy (Janet Waldo) is so enamored of teen idol Jet Screamer that she writes a song for him. As you'll see, George (George O'Hanlon) gets in on the act as a drummer. It would take 25 years before there would be a sequel to "A Date With Jet Screamer", and it would be the full-length TV movie, "Rockin' With Judy Jetson".

Now don't ya think there are punk bands that could've covered "Eep Opp Ork Ah Ah"?

I love this song! Despite being very much a product of its era, it makes it no less enjoyable! It's at least as good as any other novelty tune released back then.

The Violent Femmes did a respectable version of the song back in the 90s. It's on the "Saturday Morning Greatest Hits" CD.

One thing I also liked about the episode that introduced the song was the generational reconnection between George & Judy over music. Back in '62 lots of parents weren't crazy about rock & roll music and in The Jetsons, it wasn't any different. Seeing George come to like Jet, his music and watching him sing the refrain with Judy towards the end was just sweet!

BTW - It was Elroy who actually wrote the song. George replaced it with Judy's original tune which was for a Jet Screamer songwriting contest.

In other words, typical sitcom silliness. I wonder who at H-B actually wrote it, though.........

If Big Cartoon Database is to be believed, the ep was written by Harvey Bullock. The song I suspect was written by Hoyt Curtain.

According to a poster on a different site, this song was released on a 45 on Golden Records, except Judy was singing it and the lyrics were slightly different.
